The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, was asked about game caught with a wooden spear. He replied, "Whatever you hit with its edge (1), [is for you to] eat. And whatever you hit with its shaft is [considered to have been] killed by a violent blow (2)." Footnotes: (1) i.e. the spear pierced the animal.
